Google reveals Android 14 code name

Android 14 is known on Google as Upside Down Cake

While Google is currently actively working on Android 13, codenamed Tiramisu, which arrives in the fourth quarter of 2022, that doesn’t mean it’s not already working on it. Android 14. In fact, everything seems to be in the pipeline and already has a code name: Upward cake.

Every year, Google gives its latest major Android release a dessert-inspired code name in alphabetical order. In the past, these code names were also official names for Android versions, including brands like Android KitKat and Android Oreo.

The situation was canceled when the system reached the letter Q. The code name in this case was Queen’s Cake, but it was never treated as a public name for the system. In fact, Android 10 is simply called Android 10 when its predecessor was publicly known as Android 9.0 Pie, and as of 2019, we only have numbers.

Nonetheless, Google still gives it an internal code name, and Android 14 is therefore Upside Down Cake. The name is even stylized so that Google writes “UpsideDownCake”, without spaces between each word.

For those who don’t know, Upside Down Cake is a cake that is baked “upside down” in one pan and its fillings remain at the bottom of the pan. When it comes out of the oven, the finished product is turned and served on a plate, allowing it to be “straightened” and served vertically (as shown in the cover image of this article).
