Guterres, “peace ambassador”, saw the absurdity of the war in Ukraine picture gallery

This Thursday, António Guterres will visit Borodianka, Irpin and Bucha on his first trip to Ukraine since the start of the war.

After a meeting in Moscow with Vladimir Putin and Sergei Lavrov, the head of Russian diplomacy, the UN Secretary-General wanted to see the ruined cities in the Kiev region.

This afternoon, he will speak with the President of Ukraine and Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba. Assuming himself an “ambassador for peace,” Guterres guarantees that the primary goal is to create conditions for civilians who are still trapped in the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol, a “martyr city” surrounded by Russian forces since the beginning of the attack.

Arriving in Borodianka, on the outskirts of Ukraine’s capital, the UN chief said “war in the 21st century is absurd.”

The devastation left by the Moscow army in Bucha, Borodianka and Irpin is similar after weeks of occupation: hundreds of dead, corpses with signs of torture, executions.

The investigation into “possible war crimes” should now continue at the request of António Guterres.
