The municipal health office (SMS) will begin vaccinating children aged 6 months to 4 years, 11 months and 29 days against flu (flu) and measles (triple viral vaccine) this Saturday (30). D-Day will be held at the event, which will also open vaccination posts for people over 60 and healthcare professionals. These three priority groups represent 125,441 people in the nationwide target audience of the campaign.
Vaccination will take place in 26 locations between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Children aged 6 months to 4 years, 11 months and 29 days, the elderly over 60 years of age and healthcare professionals can receive a dose against the flu. The vaccine protects against the Darwin subtype H1N1, B and H3N2 viruses, which caused an outbreak in late 2021.
The measles vaccine is available for children aged 9 months to 4 years, 11 months and 29 days, and for healthcare professionals whose vaccination program is in progress. It should be noted that both vaccines, both influenza and measles vaccines, can be given on the same day. Concomitant vaccination is an activity recommended by the Ministry of Health’s National Vaccination Program.
Rodrigo Carneiro, director of primary health care, explains that the flu virus is circulating endemic across the country. “Every year, there is a risk of an epidemic or outbreak, as experienced in late 2021. The outbreak of the H3N2 virus, which, together with the coronavirus pandemic, made human health even more difficult, so every year we should give the flu vaccine to those so-called risk groups because the flu is potentially serious. Influenza can take people to the hospital, intensive care unit and die, ”explains the infectious disease expert.
From April 4 to 26, 9,743 people over the age of 60 have been vaccinated against the flu. The range of health care workers was 5,372 vaccinated. There are a total of 1,606 health care workers who have updated their measles vaccination schedule.
Rodrigo points out that the vaccine is very safe and that he expects vaccinable campers to gather at influenza vaccination sites. “It’s very important that people get a vaccine that is renewed every year with viruses that have spread more often in the last semester,” he said.
To obtain the vaccines, a vaccination card, a photo ID and a residence card must be presented.
Next Monday (2), an influenza vaccine will be launched for other priority groups, such as lorry drivers, road workers, urban and long-distance travelers; deprivation of liberty worker; freedoms for deprived population and young people in socio-educational activities; army; security and rescue forces; port workers; truck drivers; pregnant women and women who have given birth; people with co-morbidities; and permanently disabled.
