PS5: The introduction of VRR brought great improvements!

VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) is one of the key features of the new generation of consoles, but despite the fact that the Xbox Series X was launched with active technology, Sony’s PlayStation 5 only got a “novelty” in the latest firmware update.

Something that in an extremely curious way led to improved performance and picture quality, which is very appealing to lovers of the gaming ecosystem of the Japanese giant Sony PlayStation.

PS5: The introduction of VRR brought great improvements!

That’s why the VRR released for the PS5 in recent days brings some graphical improvements and makes the gaming experience very smooth. In fact, to be honest, the difference was much bigger than expected, as you can see from the video below, which tries to show the impact of technology in the most versatile game modes of supported games.

To get an idea, the increase in FPS was really significant, even if I activated the 4K resolution or Ray-Tracing feature. In many cases, the increase in FPS was 50%.

Eventually, Spider-Man achieves 96 FPS in performance mode with active beam tracking and achieves 60 FPS in 4K (Loyalty) mode. Ratchet And Clank, on the other hand, manages to achieve 110 FPS in performance mode with active beam tracking, and of course it also offers 60 FPS in 4K mode.

Interestingly, even in “hijacked” FPS games, as in the case of Resident Evil Village, there is an noticeable improvement in game smoothness when VRR allows for the removal of dirt and feed delays.

However, while it is possible to activate the functionality for all future PS5s. It is recommended that you use VRR only for compatible titles. The list is still shrinking, but is expected to grow significantly in the near future.
