DGS announces news of new booster dose: it applies to children and the elderly and starts next week

The approval of the second booster dose in children received a favorable opinion from the Technical Committee for Vaccination

Residents aged 80 years and older and residents of ERPI (Residential Structures for Isodes) will receive a second booster dose of covid-19. According to a statement from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), vaccinations will begin next Monday, 16 May.

The vaccination process for these people takes place in vaccination centers and health centers in their residential area.

According to the DGS, children and adolescents 12 to 15 years of age with immunosuppression are also eligible for an additional dose of covid-19 vaccines. The decision will be taken after a favorable opinion from the Vaccination Technical Committee.

“Adolescents with such diseases are vaccinated according to the doctor’s instructions and prescriptions,” the statement said.

The population eligible for this vaccine is about 750,000 people who should be vaccinated at least four months after the last dose or after being diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection, meaning this “confirmation also covers people who have recovered from the infection,” Graça Freitas said.
