Reactions with emoticons on WhatsApp turn into memes

WhatsApp announced earlier this month the ability to use emoticons to respond to an incoming message. So far, there are six options: thumb up, heart, crying with laughter, surprise, grief, thank you – which some use as amen.

The novelty gradually began to work here in Brazil and since then change has been one of the most talked about topics on social media. In recent days, netizens have spread the virus by saying that from now on, the “vacuum” has been finally legalized in a messaging app.

Instead of group and individual answers, a person can simply use the thumb up symbol and never return to the conversation.

How do the reactions work?

Reactions are available for both mobile and WhatsApp Web. On smartphones, just tap the message you want to respond to and select the emoji that represents the response.

On your computer, you need to hover over the message, click on the face to the right, and select the emoji to respond to.

It’s good to remember that this type of emoticon feature isn’t new, as with competing WhatsApp apps like iMessage, Telegram, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger, it already existed – except for the emo.
