The Azovstal evacuation operation begins with rescuing seriously injured soldiers

Ukraine assures that a special operation to evacuate the Azovstal plant in besieged Mariupol will begin with the rescue of seriously injured soldiers and will be carried out in several stages.

“We have started a new round of negotiations on a special action plan. Let’s start with the seriously injured. The Red Cross and the UN met with the Russians and agreed on a series of talks, said Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereschuk.

Vereschuk explained that currently Azovstal has not only fighters from the Azov battalion, but also soldiers and officers from the armed forces, the national police and the border guard. “Everything has to be saved,” he said.

Kiev is in “difficult negotiations” with Russia to evacuate 38 seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers from the basement of the Azovstal steel plant, Vereschuk said yesterday.

“Today [quinta-feira], there are only about 38 seriously injured soldiers. We are working step by step, ”said Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Iryna Verechtchuk in the Telegram messaging service, reversing the figure of 500-600 people presented by some media outlets.
